Intel's Pentium 4 3.06GHz HT
The new Hyper-Threading equipped
processors include the following features:
-Hyper
Pipelined Technology increases overall throughput
-Advanced Dynamic Execution calls for improved branch prediction to
enhance performance for all 32-bit applications by optimizing instruction
sequences
-The ability to process 4.2GB of data per second (versus 1.06 on PIII's
133MHz FSB)
-Level 1 Execution Trace Cache greatly improves instruction cache
efficiency, maximizing performance on frequently used sections of software code
-Rapid Execution Engine allows the arithmetic logic to unite to run at
twice the core frequency, speeding execution
-256KB or 512KB Level 2 Advanced Transfer Cache enhances performance by
providing fast access to heavily used data and instructions
-Enhanced Floating-Point & Multimedia Unit provides enhanced 3D
visualization, life-like gaming and scientific calculations
-Internet Streaming SIMD Extensions accelerates video, speech, encryption
and imaging / photo processing
-Test, Performance & Thermal Monitoring allows motherboards to be cost
effectively designed to expected application power usages rather than
theoretical maximums
-New 0.13u Processor Technology allows for higher frequency & lower power
The new chip looks almost
identically the same as the previous Northwood processors. There is a
slightly different resister layout, but the power requirements are the same.
The Thermal Design Power allows for a blistering 81.8W to be sent to the
processor. The rumor of a new power supply requirement has been proven
untrue (unless you have an outdated one of course). The fan adjusts to the
applications that you are running. For example, if you are using processor
intensive applications the fan may speed up to provide for better cooling.
The stock fan that was sent with the processor for testing can get pretty loud
(almost reminds me of when my Dell Poweredge server was sitting next to me).
