Written: Friday, January 11, 2002 When you are looking into purchasing a processor you are in search of the best speed, overall performance, reliability and technology. Intel's new Pentium 4 Northwood covers all of those areas and is currently the world's highest performance desktop processor. Compatibility is something Intel took very seriously in designing this chip, it works in SDRAM, DDR and RDRAM environments, which is what makes it a good choice. Many things were improved in the design of this processor compared to the traditional P4 and AthlonXP. Intel has a large share of the world's PC processor market and is coming in very close with AMD's processors. Technology is changing quite rapidly this day in age and many people want to stay current. The new P4 Northwood will grow with you, adapting to future technologies such as: AGP 8X, Serial ATA, and USB 2.0. I am sure this chip is also an overclocking wonder, easily capable of hitting 2.5 GHz with the proper techniques. Intel's current mainstream product lines range from their Tualatin to their Pentium 4. Pricing is spread out equally in the market and the Northwood's will surely come down in price and will be very affordable, most likely come summer. This processor is a great choice from home users, to power users, business professionals and gaming enthusiasts, adapting to the rapidly changing technology of today. Next Page: An In-depth
