MULTIMEDIA CENTER 8 Multimedia Center 8.0 was built upon the past version 7.6. This new re-vamped version allows the applications to be skinned. Additionally, a feature called MulTView allows two tuners to be simultaneously taken advantage of. This allowa the ability to watch TV using picture-in-picture and record one show while watching another. Also, included is the ability to search closed caption text. If you are recording a show you can go to the appropriate moment in the captured video where you selected the text. This may be nifty for those of us that are into sports and getting a full view of each play by play move. The new version of MMC also includes an improved library program that will organize and maintain your media files. SOFTWARE BUNDLING One thing that I noticed upon opening the box was there was no copy of Ulead. Upon further examination I found that the bundle now includes a version of Pinnacle Studio 8, which many find to be superior and easier to use compared to Ulead. This still may not surpass Adobe Premiere, but it is certainly better. Another thing to note is that Pinnacle Studio allows you to create DVDs at the touch of a button. DVD burners and technology has been making a strive in today's market and I am sure it will become a included accessory to the mainstream market as CD burners did with in time. MEMORY INTERFACE With in the 9700 video processing unit there are four independent 64-bit memory channels. Each of these channels can be utilized simultaneously, while writing data to memory or reading data back into the graphics processor. The video processor makes sure that all four channels will be used to their fullest abilities. VERTEX PROCESSING ENGINE The vertex processing engine included with this video card is the most powerful available to the end user. There are four parallel vertex shader pipelines, which have the ability to process one vertex and one triangle per second. This processing engine implements the new and improved vertex shader introduced with DirectX 9.0. Truform 2.0 is supported by the vertex processing engine and smoothes out the curved surfaces of 3D characters, objects, and terrain by increasing the polygon count. There are no changes necessary to existing programs to improve the current 3D scenes, which would allow for smoother transitions. 3D RENDERING ENGINE The rendering engine has the ability to render eight pixels at the same time. This is accomplished by eight parallel 128-bit rendering pipelines. VIDEO PROCESSING ENGINE The Videoshader module improves video capture and playback that occurs in real-time. Basically, it assists where Videosoap could not before. DISPLAY INTERFACE The display interface allows for over a whopping one billion colors to be displayed. There are high precision 10-bit per color channel frame buffers that are enabled by DirectX 9.0 that allow for this. DE-INTERLACING Video is usually recorded in the interlaced format and needs to be converted into progressive format for display on a monitor. The previous noted function is called de-interlacing. Progressive scanning provides twice as much detail as interlaced scanning. The two methods utilized are bob and weave. The de-interlacing hardware determines which method is best to use in specific situations. Video Immersion II technology integrates digital video features to allow for a superior video quality and the ability to decode digital television. The component output joins this technology to out put to a high definition television.
