Acoustic Energy Aego 2 Speakers Review @ HardwareZoom posted
by Babylon5 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 8:36 PM EST
"How does the Aego2 pull this track off? Excellent is all we can say..with the right balancing on all the different frequencies. The pace of the track "Victory" was fast, mean and fierce, but the Aego2 tamed it with such grace that you could distinctly enjoy the beauty of the highs, mids and bass. Even our Mordaunt Short, MS-40i floorstanders together with its Marantz ampliflier could not pull off the same grace with this track. The Aego2 produces sound that was neither too high nor too low on this track, just right and pleasing to the ears even when the pace gets tough."

Abit IC7-MAX3 Motherboard Review @ envynews posted
by Babylon5 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 8:34 PM EST
“The MAX series of boards from ABIT for both Intel and AMD platforms have received much deserved success and recognition in the industry. Likewise, ABIT marketed cooling technology on their GeForce4 Ti4200 and GeForce FX 5900 by the name of OTES, or Outside Thermal Exhaust System. ABIT once again took home the bacon with a merging of both MAX and OTES, with the IC7-MAX3 motherboard. Equipped with an avant-garde MOSFET cooling system, this Intel Pentium4 mainboard sports radical features, without compromising on performance!”

Glowpad Creation @ Modasylum posted
by Babylon5 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 8:33 PM EST
"Being a night owl or participating in lan parties requires having a luminescent mousepad? There are all kind of expensive and non-personal premade mousepads on the market, but as a modder buying a premade is not conceivable? This week's guide is about making a glowing mousepad, out of easy-to-get material."

Game review: Chrome @ Madshrimps posted
by Babylon5 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 8:32 PM EST
"Chrome is a tactical first person shooter whose main action takes place in the future during the colonization of the newly discovered solar system of Valkyria. An unusual and dramatic story takes place among the huge and wild terrains of the five planets, within the residential complexes of the first settlers, deep within mines rich with precious minerals and inside the headquarters of the powerful corporations fighting among themselves over the unique riches of Valkyria. From tropical forests, rocky deserts, canyons, a crater, snowy glaciers to lakes and mountains Chrome has it all. Or not?"

Short-Media challenged our enthusiasts to dream up the cheapest PC around and one that only Howard Hughes would own. They did just that and told us, in their words, what they did to get there.

POWMAX PS Tester @ MHW posted
by Babylon5 on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at 8:14 PM EST
"With tester and power cord in hand, I fired up some power supplies and tested them. And of course, as expected, there were some bad and some good. The indicator lights are simple - there are 6 green LEDs and a single red one - if the red LED lights up, the supply is definitely bad. The others consist of a main "good" green LED, and one each for the following voltages: +12V, -5V, +5V, -12V, +3.3V."

AMD Optimal BIOS settings + Overclocking Guide @ Madshrimps posted
by Babylon5 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 6:56 PM EST
"You'll spend one day getting the best CPU Mhz you can. Another day devoted to getting a screencap of the best Mem Bandwidth you can. Another day getting the highest 3DMark score you can, another day getting the fastest HardDrive transfer rates you can....screencaps of the lot, post 'm in the forums, let the fans worship & adore you (until they beat you!!). Hardcore overclockers spend weeks devoted to bettering each individual score, and then when they've got the best scores they can, they sell off that component and try to find one that'll do even better... On and on we go..."

Multi-Function 3.5" Fan Controller Review @ GruntvillE posted
by Babylon5 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 6:50 PM EST
"Not everybody has empty 5-1/4" bays, with CDRW drives, HDD coolers, and reservoirs, there's little room left. With the decline of the aging floppy drives most 3.5" bays have been left empty. Even though I did have 2 empty 5-1/4" bays, I decided to go for the 3.5" Rheobus because, well, because it was cheap. To be honest, I normally don't let price effect my buying decisions, but seeing as how this rheobus was intended for my "spare" computer I found the cheapest one I could. I don't need it to be able to handle that many watts, I don't need it to light up, and I don't need to mess with it that much. So the only factor left is price."

Casetronics 2699R Mini-ITX Case Review @ VH posted
by Babylon5 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 6:47 PM EST
"More and more PC users are building a Home Theater PC, or better known as HTPC. As the name implies, the rig is mainly used for DVD movie playbacks, Divx or XVid movies, MP3 jukebox and since it's connected to a TV set, it could also be used as a PC for the living room where couch surfing usually takes place. And the Mini-ITX motherboards, the brainchild of VIA, was the perfect candidate for the applications. Being so tiny in size (17cm by 17cm), the resulting chassis that you'll need will definitely have a small footprint and will blend in nicely with any current home entertainment system setups. There's quite a number of Mini-ITX cases available right now in the market and one of them is the Casetronic 2699R MiniITX Case."

"Cooler Master has taken their first step into the budget case market with a bold step. Their case is sleek and flashy, sure to catch the eye of many people. And for those of you who put your components into this case once, shut it up and leave it alone (except to clean the front filter every few years, this case is a good budget solution to a mid-tower."

Albatron PX865PE Lite Pro i848P Motherboard Review @ pcstats posted
by Babylon5 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 6:36 PM EST
"Let's be frank about this, who wouldn't want to have the best equipment in their PC? I'm going to be buying a new car soon and I'd love to get a Porsche... but my budget doesn't allow that. For the average consumer, most view buying a PC hardware in much the same way - they want the fastest gear, but then reality sets in. So what are the options? Well for one, a motherboard based on the newly introduced Intel i848P chipset could work. The i848P's feature set is almost identical to that of the i865PE except for one thing, there is only one 64 bit memory controller instead of two. That means the i848P has half the bandwidth of the i865PE at any given time, and is more suitably targeted towards value conscious consumers. Other than that, the feature set of the i848P and i865PE are virtually the same; both have 8x AGP, CSA support, etc. Though i848P's silicon is physically larger than that of the i845PE, it is the same size as the i865PE chipset."

Ultimate Gaming Machine of 2003 @ pcstats posted
by Babylon5 on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 6:34 PM EST
"After a few weeks of talking back and forth, Canada Computers sent us over their "Ultimate Gaming Machine of 2003" for review... and I can tell you it's a real bad boy. PCStats tends to focus on the individual hardware components a lot because that is what most of our readers tell us they look for when upgrading. But, every now and then we like to break loose, and relax with a full system review. With that in mind, it was quite a pleasure to test out this little silver rig which came fully equipped with all the bells, whistles, and bright neon lights that you could ever want. It also helped that it is was one of the fastest machines on the market too."
