Code Red posted
by Josh on Monday, July 30, 2001 at 11:05 PM EST
Well in case you have not seen the news today there has been a global warning issued today for the Code Red worm. The code red worm last month infected servers world wide and launched a massive denial of service attack against the white houses official web site. Some think the Chinesse are to thank for this, because infected servers display: Hacked by Chineese. There has been a patch issued for it, you can go here to download it...
The Red Worm code is set to go off again tomorrow Aug. 1st and wide spread denial of service attacks will hit unpatched servers. Don't worry, we are patched ;).

Hercules Prophet 4500 Kyro II 64MB posted
by Josh on Saturday, July 28, 2001 at 12:11 PM EST
Following Hercules's normal trend the board is of course on a nice blue PCB. Blue seems to be a nice trend and when matched up with other blue hardware can make a really cool looking setup. Our test-card did not have TV/OUT however for 10 dollars more you can buy the card with the TV/Out option. Personally I would have just provided TV/OUT anyway and not make 2 versions. Their is a place on the PCB for a DVI output, however Hercules does not offer a card that has DVI, in theory I do agree with this, since you are normally going to be using a high-end card for DVI output, but it would have been nice. While the Kyro II does not run hot, Hercules decided to place a mini Blue ORB looking heatsink on the chip with a nice ball bearing fan.

NewQ Platinum posted
by Josh on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 10:13 PM EST
As you can tell the NewQ platinum resembles a car stereo, which it kind of is in many terms. For one NewQ decided to integrate an FM Radio inside which can operate even when the computer is off. (provided you buy the separate AC Adapter which plugs into the backplane) Also for those of you with newer soundcards you may recognize this feature. SRS Surround, which comes with many presets including Hall, Live, Club, Stadium, and SF. I did notice that each setting does alter the sound quite a bit, I left mine set to Live and it sounded very clear and crisp. Another menu allows you to change music preference, this includes, Pop, Rock etc. Since I mainly listen to pop I left it set to Pop. When set to rock I noticed that the bass level had increased quite a bit, which did match up nicely to several rock tracks that I played. However, in case the bass or treble is too much for you it can be easily changed in one of the many options. Two nice features that I liked the most were headphone/mic jacks on the front and also a wireless remote control!, that's right, you can change your setting's and radio stations from across the room.
